Apart from one on one sessions, I will also be offering group sessions during the summer and during the school year. There are many advantages to group sessions over a 1-on-1 session. One of them being that there are more perspectives brought to each lesson. The more students there are in a class, the more variety there is to the questions that are asked during the class. There are opportunities for students to learn from one another during a group session. A student might ask a question that other students didn’t think of and this would create a richer learning experience for the class as a whole. Another advantage of a group session is the lower hourly cost per student. The cost per student becomes more affordable with every additional student in the online class. Generally, the number of students in my online classes range from 2-5, so unlike a class with 20+ students, each student will receive enough attention from me. I strive to give each student the same amount of attention, and opportunities to participate in the session.
Since my sessions are now exclusively online, group sessions are a lot more feasible because no travel is required for those participating in the session. Students from different parts of the GTA can be in the same session. All that is required is for all individuals in the session to be available at the same time. Another advantage is the opportunity for students to form a study group and to work together on the assigned homework outside of sessions.
If you’re interested in my group sessions, please send me an email specifying the course that you or your son or daughter is currently enrolled in or planning to take in the future, as well as who else you would like to be part of the group sessions. I help students with their summer school courses, as well as prepare them for courses that they will be taking during the school year. The ideal situation for an online group would be one where students know each other because it’s likelier that it would result in a better group dynamic and collaboration.
I use Zoom to host my online group sessions. Zoom allows me to share my screen, and for students to share their screens with me. I use a Surface Pro device with stereo mics, an HD webcam and a stylus along with OneNote to annotate. All students in the session are able to see me and what I’m writing on my screen. I have taught all the courses that I help students with or pre-teach to students in a regular classroom setting, so I have all the resources required to teach each course, such as PowerPoint presentations, handouts, quizzes, assignments, and tests. I share these resources with students in my one on one and group tutoring sessions.
I have close to a decade of experience preparing students for Pre-IB, IB, and AP courses. Students greatly benefit from my headstart program for these courses because of the sheer amount of content that these courses contain. Students that I have tutored over the years have gone on to do remarkably well on their IB and AP external exams. Many have told me that the reinforcement that they received in my sessions was a deciding factor in how they performed in their IB and AP courses.
