OVERVIEW OF TUTORING APPROACH
The one-on-one tutoring that I provide is highly individualized, and involves continuously accessing my students to see how they are progressing. From the first session, I use diagnostic assessments to identify a student’s strengths and gaps in knowledge. Each tutoring session is tailored to meet the specific needs of the student. I believe that every student is different and requires a unique approach to reach his or her highest potential. I use an inquiry-based approach, which involves guiding students through problems and allowing them to discover principles. I encourage students to come to a solution on their own and act as a facilitator of learning. In addition to my lessons, I also provide my students with supplementary resources in order to maximize their chances of success; at the end of each session, I assign homework exercises that are intended to reinforce understanding. I regularly provide my students with descriptive feedback and provide parents/guardians with progress reports and consultation. I am invested in the success of my students and strive to motivate them to do the best that they can. When necessary, I help students develop organizational skills and effective study habits.

HEADSTART PROGRAM
I often teach the material of a course to a student before he or she takes that course in school. This leads to the student doing much better in the course, since he or she is already familiar with the concepts that will be covered. This allows the student to dedicate more time to focusing on the more challenging concepts and skills needed to do exceptionally well, rather than spending time understanding the underlying concepts of the course. Having taught most of the high school math and science courses, I’ve noticed that the pace of some of these courses is too fast for many of the students that take them, and this leads to many of them not doing as well as they could.
The headstart program has produced very good results over the years. Almost every student that has been part of it has ended up with over 90% in the course that they covered with me. Students that have been part of my headstart program have told me that they felt much more confident in class because they were rarely confused with what was being taught and could answer most of the teacher’s questions.
ONLINE TUTORING
Apart from offering in-home tutoring, I also offer online tutoring to students that may be outside of my in-home tutoring range, or might prefer online sessions instead of meeting in person. I offer online sessions to international students that are planning on studying in Canada, but do not yet live in Canada; this allows them to get a head start on their studies. My online sessions are administered via Zoom. The advantage of using Zoom is that it allows me and the student to share screens. I use a Surface Pro tablet along with OneNote to annotate when I’m teaching online. I share resources such as handouts, assignments, quizzes, and tests with my students through google drive. Some students that I tutor have a Surface Pro or iPad which allows them to fill out handouts that I share with them and send them to me for checking. Another option is for them to just take images of their completed work and send it to me.
